Laurel, Md. – June 20, 2017 – WSSC’s monthly Commission meeting is taking place on Wednesday, June 21, at WSSC’s Laurel headquarters starting at 10 a.m. Each month, WSSC Commissioners hold a public meeting to review contracts, policies and receive updates on major agency initiatives. All meetings are open to the public and livestreamed.

Wednesday’s meeting includes the selection of a new WSSC Commission chair and vice chair. As the commissioners vote to elect new leadership for the upcoming fiscal year, they also will recognize outgoing Chair Fausto Bayonet for his leadership over the past year. Commissioners are appointed to four-year terms by the County Executive of either Montgomery or Prince George’s County and serve a one-year term as chair and vice chair, with both positions alternating between each county representative.

Other items being discussed and reviewed during the meeting include:

  • Update on rate structure meetings, including extensive outreach efforts for the June public meetings
  • Adoption of WSSC’s strategic plan
  • IssueTrakr update (new online customer service enhancement tool)
  • Adoption of fiscal year 2018 rates and fees
  • Adoption of fiscal year 2018 operating and capital budgets
  • Adoption of six-year Capital Improvements Program
  • Update on Piscataway Wastewater Treatment Plant bio-energy project

As part of WSSC’s commitment to public engagement and transparency, monthly Commission meetings are broadcast live. A link to the broadcast can be found on our website and available for viewing from a desktop computer and most mobile devices.
