Laurel, Maryland – June 5, 2009: The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) announced today that Commissioner Adrienne A. Mandel was recently appointed to a full four-year term by Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett and confirmed by the Montgomery County Council.
Mandel, a former state legislator, has served on the Commission since October 2007, when she was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Marc Lieber. She was Chair of the Commissioners from October 2007 to August 2008. Mandel served as a Maryland State Delegate from Montgomery County’s Legislative District 19 for three terms, from 1995 through 2006.
Six commissioners govern the WSSC. Three are residents from Montgomery County and three are residents from Prince George’s County. All six are appointed to four-year terms by their respective county executives and are confirmed by their county councils. Other Commissioners from Montgomery County are Gene Counihan and Dr. Roscoe M. Moore. Commissioners from Prince George’s County include Commission Chair Joyce Starks, Dr. Juanita Miller and Prem Agarwal.
