Job Description -
GENERAL SUMMARY:Maintains general ledger and subsidiary accounts; establishes and sets up accounts and systems; prepares financial statements; performs financial analysis; and may coordinate work of Accountants I, an Accounting Technician and Accounting Clerks.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Supervises tracking and reconciliation of material inventories, fixed assets and related depreciation; Processes monthly overhead allocation entries and prepares data for project standard allocation rates; Performs monthly balance sheet account schedule reconciliations; Reviews and audit developer contract pricing and establishes rates accordingly; Participates in GL system upgrade testing; Prepares project cost analyses and standard overhead rates analyses; Reconciles subsidiary ledgers and reports to control accounts; Analyzes financial records, recommending improvements in methods or procedures; Prepares bond fund financial statements and analyze financial records; Prepares required schedules and analyses for auditors; Coordinate the work of Accounting Clerks and an Accountant I as required including monthly account schedule reconciliations, billed work operations, general ledger maintenance and monthly journal entries; Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of accounting theory, principles and practices and their application to a variety of accounting transactions and problems; Knowledge of principles and practices of analytical review, including problem definition, setting evaluation criteria, and analysis of alternatives; Ability to design and install accounting/financial systems; Skills in developing and presenting accurate and complete financial reports; ability to analyze and interpret accounting and financial records and recommend improvements; Ability to coordinate the work of others, and provide effective training; Demonstration of advanced skill and proficiency in the utilization of spreadsheets, databases, general ledger applications, word processing, inquiry, and reporting tools; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, auditors and external contractors.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field and three years of progressively responsible experience in public or corporate accounting including work with GASB and/or FASB pronouncements and their application and preparation and analysis of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Proficient in the utilization of Microsoft Office with advanced skills in Excel and Access.
PREFERENCES: Experience with Oracle General Ledger or equivalent GL software; CPA certificate, graduate coursework in finance, business management, statistics or related field.
SPECIAL NOTE - 40-hour work week, M-F with additional work hours may be required to meet monthly/year-end reporting and audit deadlines. Position open until filled.
