Job Description -
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Directs subordinate Electrical Mechanics; Determines reasons for wear and repairs various types of mechanical items such as pumps, compressors, conveyors, screens, valves, fans, etc. and makes appropriate repairs/recommendations for prevention; Replaces belts, bearings, couplings, etc., and replaces worn parts as necessary and makes appropriate repairs/recommendations for prevention; Installs pumps, motors, pipes, valves, and electrical controls necessary to make new pumping units functional; Repairs pneumatic and hydraulic control systems on valves and bubbler systems; Repairs controls of various voltages and types such as variable speed and synchronous motors; Maintains electrical substations up to 69KV; Services heating and air conditioning systems; Services generators and their associated automatic starting equipment; Installs a wide variety of other electrical or mechanical equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to work in inclement weather with fluctuating temperatures, climbing ladders, scaffolding, descending underground, as well as exposure to the hazards of working in confined places and to high voltage electrical shock.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment of the electrical/mechanical trade; Thorough knowledge of electrical mechanical construction and maintenance, including installation and/or modification of all sizes of electrical conduit, cables, wires, switches, automatic starting equipment, etc.; Some knowledge of electronic repair practices and methods; Skill in the use of tools and adjusting defects in electrical and mechanical systems and equipment; Ability to work from drawings, schematics and specifications; Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or equivalent and three years of experience as an Electrical/Mechanic, including one year of experience in the maintenance of high voltage switchgear and substations (up to 69KV). Substation experience should include repair and servicing equipment such as oil circuit breakers, transformers, roll out breakers and switchgear controls (protective relays). One year of experience in reading electrical one-line drawings, diagrams of high voltage substations and switchgear, and interconnecting diagrams and equipment location drawings of the same equipment; and satisfactory completion of an Apprentice Electrical Mechanical Program with applicable technical courses in electrical maintenance procedures, blue prints, schematics, etc.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a WSSC driver's permit
