This is a non-merit employment contract position.
GENERAL SUMMARY: The Senior Database Administrator will be responsible for the implementation, design, maintenance and support of databases at WSSC. He/she will ensure the 24/7/365 availability, security, scalability and incident response for the team. The individual in this role will be able to perform various complex duties for the organization's relational databases which include MS SQL Server and support Oracle database environments. Duties include analyzing, testing, and implementing physical database designs to support various business applications; performing database design reviews to enforce best practices and standards; developing detailed logical data models; and resolving all database-related issues. The Senior Database Administrator shall design and implement strategies for data security, meta-data management, data extraction, data cleansing, data transformation, data loading, and data replication/distribution. This individual will also implement and maintain accurate configuration management records and perform general database maintenance activities to include backup and recovery, capacity planning, and user account/access management.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Advanced knowledge of principles of data processing and relational database management systems including writing programs, using system utilities, etc.; Comprehensive knowledge of database technology, software technology, systems analysis, research techniques, systems development standards and quality and cost controls; Advanced knowledge of RDBMS technologies; Thorough knowledge of Microsoft SQL server database system software, utilities, back-up and recovery procedures, install and upgrade procedures and experience with database techniques, performance and tuning and documentation; Advanced knowledge of and the ability to support Microsoft SQL database applications; Advanced knowledge of database installations and consolidation and database tuning; Knowledge of MS-SQL table normalization. Ability to maintain a strong customer focus ensure effective flow of communication between the DBA teams, internal teams, and management. Excellent troubleshooting abilities, good reporting practices, good understanding of Oracle Application; Knowledge of managing distributed architectures; Knowledge of the Windows environment and supported software databases, software and security; Advanced knowledge of MS SQL SERVER high availability solution like Log Shipping, Database Mirroring, and clustering architectures.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or other technical discipline, OR six (6) additional years of relevant IT professional experience.
5 (five) years of progressive experience in application database administration and Oracle Business Suite in a large corporate environment including the following: Full life cycle Microsoft SQL technology implementation/ upgrade project completion in an Application DBA role. Experience with diverse range of databases, including Oracle, SQL Server, and IDMS. Experience in database administration, tuning, backup/recovery and supporting standard methods and best practices. Experience in implementing integration middleware technologies and asynchronous queue implementations.
PREFERENCES: Experience using defined ITIL processes; Experience supporting database requirements for Microsoft Applications and Microsoft Developer tools; Experience supporting Microsoft components (DCOM) and .Net Environment; ITIL or PMP certifications; Related DBA certifications, such as Microsoft Certified Database Admin (MCDBA) and/or Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS).
