Job Description -
EXAMPLES OF WORK: Responsible for engineering projects involving highly specialized and complex engineering requirements; Provides coaching, work assignments and general supervision of other water and sewer system planners and support staff within the Planning Group; Performs a wide variety of complex engineering calculations, analyses and computations; Supervises and participates in the development of water and wastewater flow projections based on demographic projections and water use patterns; Manages or conducts needs analysis for projects such as complex water and wastewater treatment plants, transmission lines and/or water and wastewater storage projects; Supervises and participates in the preparation of engineering, economic and environmental studies required for facility planning analyses; Supervises and participates in the hydraulic analysis of water and wastewater systems to determine adequacy, problems, and needs; Participates in regional water supply and regional wastewater treatment and transmission planning projects and studies; Supervises and participates in the development of the Capital Improvements and Engineering Support Programs; Supervises and participates in the economic analysis of project alternatives;
Manages the development and utilization of applicable computer models and databases in the planning process; Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of water and sewer planning; ability to coach and supervise lower level water and sewer planners and support staff; thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of civil/environmental engineering practices; thorough knowledge of the relationship between land use planning and water and sewer planning; ability to integrate systematic and complex information in major reports; must possess the knowledge and skills to effectively access and involve other agencies, internal staff, the general public, public officials, and special interest communities and group; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to use PC and office software such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint in the conduct of day to day business; ability to use, or learn to use, various WSSC mainframe computer applications; ability to use, or learn to use, WSSC's Geographic Information System and its future applications for the Group.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Five years of progressively responsible experience in the practice of Civil/Environmental engineering and graduation from an accredited college with a degree in Civil, Environmental or other related engineering field. A master's degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
