LAUREL, MD (May 1, 2008) – As The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission celebrates 90 years of service to Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, WSSC is proud to announce that once again in 2007 WSSC drinking water met or exceeded the standards for safety and quality as set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The information is detailed in the 2007 Water Quality Report released this week.
“This report illustrates our steadfast commitment to excellence, the environment, and our customers,” said WSSC Interim General Manager Teresa D. Daniell. “We hope residents find the information in this report useful and informative. Our employees take pride in delivering high quality drinking water to Montgomery and Prince George’s counties every day.”
The report is being distributed to residents and businesses in Montgomery (Wednesday, April 30th edition) and Prince George’s (Thursday, May 1st edition) counties via the Gazette newspapers. A Spanish language version of the report will also be distributed through El Tiempo Latino (Friday, May 9th edition). The report includes language to address the area’s Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese communities.
In addition to the test results, the 2007 Water Quality Report details WSSC’s water sources and treatment processes. It also answers questions frequently asked by our customers and provides important contact information.
WSSC treats surface water from the Patuxent and Potomac rivers. The Potomac and Patuxent Water Filtration Plants provide an average of 175 million gallons of safe drinking water each day. Water quality is guaranteed by a series of rigorous tests which are routinely performed by our modern laboratory to detect nearly 200 substances in the water leaving our treatment plants. Further, WSSC analyzes tap water quality at more than 100 locations in our distribution system in communities throughout Prince George’s and Montgomery counties.
Interested citizens may view the report online at WSSC’s home page - www.wsscwater.com. Simply click on Water Quality Report in the Water section. Residents may also call WSSC at (301) 206-8100 and request a copy.
