Laurel, MD (March 11, 2008) The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) and the U.S. Communities Government Purchasing Alliance (US Communities) will host a workshop on “How to Become a Certified ‘Roofing’ Contractor,” as part of their Vendor Days outreach program. WSSC’s Vendor Days is an outreach program developed earlier this year to help Small, Local and Minority Business Enterprises (SLMBEs) identify contractual opportunities with WSSC through a series of in-depth education and training workshops.
The workshop will be held, on March 19, 2008 from 10 a.m. to noon, at WSSC’s Headquarters, 14501 Sweitzer Lane, Laurel, Maryland 20707.
The SLMBE office hopes to attract both experienced and non-experienced roofing contractors to this event. This workshop will be for minority businesses seeking certification by US Communities for work on its contracts with WSSC as well as other Maryland State procurement opportunities.
Activities will include a networking session from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., followed by a seminar and workshop. Representatives from HCS Roofing (a firm selected to provide roofing products by US Communities) will speak about its role with assisting certified minority contractors with roofing contracting opportunities.
U.S. Communities Government Purchasing Alliance is a non-profit group that assists local and state government agencies, school districts, higher education, and non-profits in reducing the cost of purchased goods through pooling the purchasing power of public agencies nationwide. This is accomplished through competitively solicited contracts for quality products through lead public agencies. Today, more than 30,000 public agencies utilize U.S. Communities’ contracts and suppliers to procure $1 billion in products and services annually.
For more information on this workshop, WSSC’s Vendor Days program and a complete Vendor Day schedule, please contact WSSC’s Small, Local and Minority Business Office at (301) 206-8800.
