Laurel, MD (February 8, 2010): The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) employees have been working tirelessly throughout the entire record-breaking snowstorm to ensure customers are provided with water and wastewater services. Many staffers have not left their positions at water filtration plants, wastewater treatment plants and at critical operations centers since the storm began, eating and sleeping on site.

Although the number of water main breaks during this storm has been relatively small, field crews have also braved this challenging weather to repair breaks and return service to customers.

WSSC is asking customers to call if they experience low water pressure at their homes or businesses. It is possible that power outages can affect pumping stations and knowing where pressure is low can help pinpoint any potential problems. If you are having any problems with your water service, contact WSSC's Emergency Call Center at 301-206-4002.

###

Established in 1918, today WSSC is the 8th largest water and wastewater utility in the nation, with a network of more than 5,500 miles of fresh water pipeline and nearly 5,400 miles of sewer pipeline. Serving 1.8 million residents in Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties our drinking water has always met or exceeded federal standards.
