The Materials Evaluation Committee (MEC) is a cross functional work group of WSSC employees created to evaluate new materials/products and additional sources of supply for existing products for use in the Commission’s water and sewer systems.

The Committee’s goals are to:

Promote competition among qualified manufacturers, vendors, and suppliers.
Facilitate and document the approval process of new or improved material solutions related to WSSC’s construction and repair projects.
Analyze proposed material specification changes for Commission water and sewer systems, including recommended deletion of approved manufacturers, products, and specifications.
Ensure WSSC operational and maintenance quality programs through product review and selection.
Standardize on the best products for particular applications as necessary.
Document the product application review process to ensure consistency, efficiency, and transparency.

The MEC will not review products that are considered “non-system materials”, including plant and equipment, facilities property, and fleet related items.

Vendors are encouraged to submit their completed MEC application (along with electronic versions of any attachments) to the following e-mail address: MEC@wsscwater.com. Note that additional information or samples may be requested during the review process.
