Job Description

This is a non-merit, employment-at-will contract position.

Manages the Data Center team and provides day-to-day oversight and management of Data Center Infrastructure and facilities for the Commission.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Supervises employees including selecting or recommending selection, training, assigning and evaluating work, counseling, disciplining, and/or termination or recommending termination;
  • Manages all aspects of Data Center Infrastructure operations, including plans, implementation, deployment, support and maintenance functions;
  • Ensures that timely, accurate, and complete assistance to WSSC employees in accordance with set Service Level Agreements and IT procedures;
  • Monitors and evaluates the performance of staff and business processes to assist departmental staff in streamlining tasks, initiating new or revised systems approaches as appropriate;
  • Develops and executes plans for Data Center/ Infrastructure growth and standard processes while providing tactical execution;
  • Manages projects by developing work plans, resource planning, budgeting, execution, and management for all operation and disaster recovery;
  • Performs other duties as required.


  • REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of database and software technologies, systems analysis, research techniques, systems development standards and quality and cost controls;
    1. Strong Knowledge of a range of computing platforms, and associated hardware, such as:
    2. o Operating Systems (Microsoft, Unix, Linux, etc.) o Collaborative tools (e-mail, instant messaging, web and video conferencing) o Virtual technologies (VMWare, etc.) o Cloud computing technologies,
  • Solid Planning, designing, management, and support knowledge of distributed architectures.


  • MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or other related discipline;
  • 8 years of progressive, hands-on experience in Linux and Intel platforms, and supporting in a large corporate environment, including 5 years in a direct supervisory or management role over a team of database and systems administrators;
  • Experience with server and data consolidation and SAN and NAS storage devices, and Cloud computing;
  • Experience in the upgrade and migration of operating systems and application of patches;
  • Experience implementing ITIL methodologies to proactively monitor systems;
  • Experience with implementing redundancy, clustering, disaster recovery and BCP plans;
  • Customer relations experience.

  • OR
  • High School diploma or equivalent;
  • 14 years of progressive, hands-on experience in Linux and Intel platforms, and supporting in a large corporate environment, including 5 years in a direct supervisory or management role over a team of database and systems administrators;
  • Experience with server and data consolidation and SAN and NAS storage devices, and Cloud computing;
  • Experience in the upgrade and migration of operating systems and application of patches;
  • Experience implementing ITIL methodologies to proactively monitor systems;
  • Experience with implementing redundancy, clustering, disaster recovery and BCP plans;
  • Customer relations experience.


  • ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Completion of the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission Financial Disclosure Statement within 30 days of employment and annually thereafter.

    PREFERENCES:
  • Experience using defined ITIL processes;
  • Experience as a systems administrator;
  • PMP certification or other recognized management training.
